Tell Congress to Support the Global Poverty Resolution!

As the G8 Summit approaches, concerned members of Congress have introduced a resolution affirming the commitment of the United States to improve the lives of children and their families living in poverty.  As President Bush heads to the G8 Summit, it is critical that your representatives in Washington hear from you.

Take action and ask your member of Congress to support the global poverty resolution!

Subject: Support the Global Poverty Resolution

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

As your constituent and a supporter of Save the Children, a nonprofit organization creating real and lasting change in the lives of children in over 40 countries around the world, I urge you to support a bipartisan House resolution affirming the commitment and leadership of the United States to improve the lives of the world's 1.3 billion people living in extreme poverty (H. Con. Res. 172).

Sadly, children disproportionately suffer the effects of extreme poverty: - every year 11 million children under the age of five die from diseases we know how to prevent; - 104 million children are unable to go to school, including 60 million girls; - 167 million children under 5 are underweight -- the result of acute or chronic hunger.

President Bush has described global poverty as "both a challenge to our compassion and a source of instability." We can do more to meet this challenge, and we must do more to ensure the safety and security of all children -- our own, and those around the world who are less fortunate. Please take this opportunity to encourage American leadership in providing hope and opportunity to children and their families by co-sponsoring the Global Poverty Resolution (H. Con. Res. 172).

Thank you for you attention to this important issue.

Sincerely,
